It’s the Hambletonian Marathon!

The fourth annual event is taking place on Sunday, October 2, 2016 in colorful Orange County, Goshen, New York…just an hour-and-a-half north of New York City, in the beautiful Hudson Valley. Looking for a challenge? Then the Hambletonian is the race for you!

  • Run 26.2 miles of glorious rolling roads, farmlands, and trails through Goshen and nearby Orange County communities
  • Take in breathtaking scenic vistas and brilliant fall colors
  • Thrill to the sight of dancing cows (yes, you read that right!)
  • Receive unparalleled support from committed volunteers and local spectators along the entire route
  • Finish at the spectacular Goshen Historic Horse Track, the oldest harness racing track in the world (don’t worry…the horses have assured us the track is ours for the day!)
  • Celebrate at our Finish Line Festival, featuring a comforting meal, cold beer and other drinks, and post-race activities!

Many of our supporters have asked us for a half marathon, and we’ve heard you. This year’s event will therefore feature the first-ever Hambletonian Half Marathon (13.1 miles) for those who want to be part of this historic event, but just aren’t up to the full course.

Yes, of COURSE We Still Have the Relay!

As always, we still have our ever-popular Good Time Trotters Relay! And this year’s event includes a two-person event. Your relay options:

  • 3-person relay: Leg 1 (11.5 miles), Leg 2 (9.8 miles), Leg 3 (4.9 miles)
  • 2-person relay: one person may run any two legs
  • Extend Leg 1 of either relay option to also include the half marathon!

TRAINING RUN SUNDAY 6/26/16 – 10 or 11 MILES

Training Run this SUNDAY June 26, 2016 – distance for marathoners is 11 miles. We will run on the second loop of the marathon course from Goshen to Chester (10 miles) and add 1 mile on the trail when we get to Chester. Meet at 7 am at the start of the Heritage Trail in Goshen at Trailside Treats (GPS address is 28 St. James Place, Goshen, NY).

We will have 2 cars in Chester to bring people back to their cars in Goshen (don’t worry, you don’t have to run back! :-) At least not this time!). Please call Kathleen Rifkin at (845) 527-3825 or email info@hambletonianmarathon.com to let me know if you’re coming so we make sure we have enough room in the cars to drive people back after the run.

If you’re worried that you will get to Chester and have to wait for the drivers to finish their runs for a ride back (I’m talking to the fast people!), you can make your own arrangements and leave your own car in Chester before the run – just be back to Goshen in time for the 7 am start. Slow(er) people – we will wait for you! Except I’m usually the one bringing up the rear these days!

Carry water for 10 miles as we will only have it at the end of the run in Chester.

All are welcome, whether or not you’re running the Hambletonian! Hope to see you!

NO TRAINING RUN THIS WEEKEND

There is no scheduled training run this weekend (6/18-6/19). Marathoners have a drop down week of a 6 mile long run. The following weekend, we are up to 11 miles! Check back Wednesday next week for the training run announcement for the weekend of 6/25-6/26. Hope everyone’s having a great week!

TRAINING RUN 6/11/16 – 9 OR 12 MILES

TRAINING RUN this Saturday 6/11/16 at 7:30 am on the first loop of the course (12 or 9 miles). Runners doing the full marathon should be running 9 miles for their long run this weekend if you are following the Hal Higdon Novice 2 program we have posted on our website.

Meet at the start of the Heritage Trail in Goshen next to Trailside Treats (GPS address is 28 St. James Place, Goshen, NY) at 7:30 am for 12 miles (the full first loop), or at the entrance to the Heritage Trail off of Hartley Rd. (Hartley Rd is off of Route 17M at LAM Electric – GPS address for Lam Electric is 2681 Route 17M, Goshen, NY – the trail entrance is about 1 mile in on Hartley Rd.) at 7:10 am for a ride back to Goshen for the 9 mile option (you will leave your car at Hartley Rd. and run to it from the start area). Let me know if you are doing the 9 miles so I know to wait for you.

Water & Gatorade will be at the 8 mile mark so carry enough for 8 miles.

FIRST TRAINING RUN TO BE HELD 6/11/16

We will hold the first official training run for the marathon on June 11, 2016 at 7am at the start of the Heritage Trail in Goshen.

In preparation, marathon trainees should be increasing their long weekend runs to a distance of 6 to 8 miles.

For the first run, we will run the first 8 miles of the course and add 1 mile (I will pick you up at the entrance to the trail at Hartley Road at about the 8 mile mark, where you will leave your car, and I will drive you to the start line for the start of the run at 7 am). More specific details (directions, timing, etc.) will follow as we get closer.

EVERYONE is welcome, no matter the pace, or if you are running the Hambletonian or not. The course will be marked and we will provide directions. Please join us! Check here or Facebook for future updates.
